CLINICAL MAGNESIUM

Our cells depend on magnesium to produce energy, to calm inflammation and pain, and to support healthy joint, bone, and muscle function. Magnesium also supports proper blood sugar regulation, cardiovascular functions, healthy gene expression, digestive function, and mental health. Magnesium deficiency is prevalent in the modern diet and is also depleted by stress.

Clinical Magnesium supports the following:
- Muscle and nerve health; for those people exhibiting spasms, those routinely developing cramps after exercise and individuals following extreme diets
- Bone and cardiovascular health; to delay and inhibit the onset of bone mass density (BMD) loss and the loss of endothelial cell function of the cardiovascular system

Corticosteriod Injection VS. Soft Tissue Manipulation

It is often asked whether a patient should get a “cortisone shot” or receive some other form of treatment for certain conditions such as tennis elbow, shoulder pain, etc. This a decision that should be made by the patient and their doctor after examining the risks, benefits and alternative forms of treatment.

When comparing the success of Soft Tissue Manipulation to Corticosteriod injections, the British Medical Journal found that the injections have been shown to be more effective for short-term relief. Corticosteriod injections, however, have a much higher reoccurrence rate of injury/ pain and have poorer outcomes in the long term when compared to soft tissue manipulation. Also, those who received soft tissue manipulation for their initial treatment sought significantly less other forms of treatment.

The study concluded that the corticosteriod injection does not aid in the healing of the tissue and does not correct any flaws in the biomechanics. A conservative approach to many soft tissue injuries would be to apply soft tissue manipulation and/or therapeutic exercises. This treatment would be aimed at releasing the structures that are tight and rehabbing the structures that are weak. If these are unsuccessful the use of corticosteroid injections is still an option that can be considered. Some of the risks associated with corticosteroid injections are avascular necrosis (especially of the hip) and the inhibition of certain connective tissue that aids in the healing process which therefore increases the risk of tendon rupture.

As with any form of treatment, there is "A Time and A Place" for everything, and this decision should be made collectively between you and your doctor.

K2D3 Supplement

Research has recently shown the majority of North Americans are deficient in Vitamins K2 and D3, especially during dark winter months, and thought to be directly responsible for a portion of adult bone breakage. It is suggested that supplementation with each can support the health of multiple metabolic systems such as the cardiovascular, immune, and musculoskeletal systems. Neither nutrient is found in adequate levels in the human diet, which is why supplementation is important.

• Vitamin D3 is required for absorption of calcium from the gut, regulation of serum calcium levels, and regulation of at least 1000 genes
• Vitamin K2 (also known as menaquinone-4, menaquinone-7, menaquinone-9) are required for modification of proteins that deposit calcium in bones

Is vitamin K2 the same as vitamin K1?
No, vitamin K1 is associated mostly with proper blood clotting, while the multiple varieties of vitamin K2 are thought to influence vascular and bone health.

What is vitamin D3?
Vitamin D is naturally produced in the human body mainly from sun exposure and a small amount from diet. Supplementation is required if we avoid the sun. Vitamin D3 helps to reduce inflammation and increases calcium absorption from the intestines, which are thought to be very important for bone health.

Can people take too much vitamin K2 and D3?
Only individuals on blood thinners such as Coumadin need to be concerned about K2. Vitamin D supplementation needs to be monitored in patients at risk for hypercalcemia, such as those with primary hyperparathyroidism, granulomatous diseases, certain cancers, thyroid disease, or use thiazide diuretics.

**Note - Patients on anticoagulant therapy should not take MK-7 or other K2 varieties without supervision and monitoring by their attending physician. Researchers suggest that 50 mcg is safe upper limit of MK-7 and other longer menaquinones (MK-8, MK-9) for properly monitored patients taking anti-coagulants12

Did you know that In Motion Spine & Joint Center carries a variety of supplements?
Anabolic Laboratories Ultra K2-D3 provides the recommended amount of vitamins K2 and a liberal amount of vitamin D3, the preferred form of vitamin D. As a pleasant tasting, chewable tablet, Ultra K2-D3 is easily taken by people who find it difficult to swallow supplements and need vitamins K2 and D3.

May 2019 - News Letter

Our office has received numerous denials on insurance claims over the past few months.

Have you gotten questionnaires through the mail from your medical insurance company asking about additional medical policies?  Did you know that if you do not provide an updated “Coordination of Benefits” then your claims will get denied for coverage by your insurance?

If your account is flagged and claims denied,  you will need to call the Member Services phone number (located on the back of your insurance card).  This should only be a 5 minute phone call  where they ask if there is any other medical insurance coverage.  That’s it !!

Please note that this information has to be updated on a yearly basis for ALL MEDICAL claims to get processed.  This information is not just for our office but for all other healthcare that you seek.

There are many people in the world who are not as fortunate, so we are at it again with our fall drive! For the month of November we will be collecting stuff for the homelessAll items will be given to the Nashville Rescue Mission. Did you know that the mission helps anywhere from 500-800 people a day? As the cooler temperatures approach, the number of homeless people they see, increase. The mission isn't just a place for these people to get fed and to have a warm place to stay for the night, but it's also a place where they can get clean clothing and toiletry items too. With that said, we will be collecting a broad range of itemsSome of those items are as follows:
